Chapter 2 and 3 (Jasbeer Kaur)
PROJECT BLASTOFF
Project blastoff is also called project initiation, kickoff and project launch. It identifies the boundaries of the product work area and the purpose of the product. The stakeholders like sponsors, key users, requirements analysts, technical and business experts and, other people, who play a vital role in the success of the project, they work together to find out the requirements and explain the needs and the purpose of the project.
It usually starts with defining the scope of the problem and the project. A meeting is held between stakeholders and they sketch a diagram to make a link between project work and outside world. They also prioritize the elements that should be worked first and the elements that are out of scope and could be ignored. Moreover, it considers the effect of stakeholders, constraints, names, relevant facts and assumptions, estimated costs and risks on the project.
FORMALITY GUIDE
There are three types related to formality:
1. Rabbit projects: The scope is clearly but briefly explained. Their meetings do not take much time. The sketch of this project should be hung up by the wall of the user.
2. Horse projects: These projects are big in size, so they have many stakeholders and have blastoff meetings. They are more formal than rabbit projects. Their deliverables are recorded, and results are communicated to appropriate people.
3. Elephant projects: These are lengthy and complex projects, so they require more than one formal meetings. They gather detailed information and review it for better outcomes. In these projects, risk analysis is also important.
